All parts of speech Study Guide
-Know all of the following definitions:
- Noun- a person, place, thing, or idea
- Verb- a word that shows action or a state of being
- Pronoun- a word that replaces a noun
- Adjective- a word that describes or gives more information about a noun or pronoun
- Adverb- a word that describes or gives more information about a verb, adjective, or adverb
- Conjunction- a word that connects words or groups of words- most common known by "Fanboys"
- Article- also called a noun marker- a specialized adjective that lets you know a noun is coming- A, An, The
- Preposition- a word that shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun and another word in the sentence, usually location
- Interjection- a word that shows surprise, pain, anger, excitement, or other strong emotions. It is not connected gramatically to the rest of the sentence.
- Subject- who or what the sentence is about
- Predicate- What the subject is, has, or does.
-Be able to identify parts of speech from a description- for example "What adverb is describing the verb ____in this sentence"
-Particularly know all forms of the verb "to be"
-Be able to identify helping, linking, and action verbs in sentences
-Be able to identify subjects and predicates in sentences
-Be able to write a sentence that fits a pattern of parts of speech, and make sense
-Be able to identify cases where the same word changes part of speech depending on it's context in the sentence.
-Know which specialized pronouns ask questions

Adverbs
Adverb Study Guide
-Know all of the following defininitions:
-Be able to identify parts of speech from a description- for example "What adverb is describing the verb ____in this sentence"
-Particularly know all forms of the verb "to be"
-Be able to identify helping, linking, and action verbs in sentences
-Be able to identify subjects and predicates in sentences
-Be able to write a sentence that fits a pattern of parts of speech, and make sense
-Be able to identify cases where the same word changes part of speech depending on it's context in the sentence. For example in "The fast boy ran" fast is acting like an adjective, describing the boy. In "The boy ran fast" fast is now acting as an adverb, describing the running.
-Be able to identify good adjectives and adverbs, as well as overused adjectives and adverbs. Be able to write a sentence that avoids overused adjectives and adverbs such as "cool" "awesome" "fun" "pretty" and similar.
-Be able to identify the types of adverbs, and identify an example adverb's type - Adverbs can describe Where, When, How, and How much

- Homework- Any work that is assigned and expected to be completed.
